While most people choose cars simply for convenience, car enthusiasts measure the value of a vehicle by how fast it can go. Fortunately, technology has enabled carmakers to produce cars whose speed surpasses our imagination. Below are five of the fastest cars in the market today.
5. SSC Tuatara
The SSC Tuatara comes from Shelby Supercars (SSC), a luxury car maker. With a speed of 275 mph, this vehicle currently holds the spot as the fifth fastest car in the world. It is powered by a 5.9-liter twin-turbo v8 and goes from 0-60 miles in 2.5 seconds. It currently costs $1.9 million. SSC is no stranger to producing fast cars as it had won the title three consecutive years in the mid-2000s, thus securing a place in the Guinness World Book of Records.
SSC has been attempting to reach the 300mph Mark for years now. In 2020, they falsely claimed to attain 310 mph, but this was later disproved. Nevertheless, the company kept trying and, in 2021, reached an average of 282.9 mph on a two-way run. Shelby Supercars finally reached 295 mph in 2022. The company brought in Racelogic to confirm these results, who believe that the tuatara didn’t attain this figure. Meanwhile, the carmaker is still aiming for the 300mph mark.
4. Bugatti Chiron Super Sport 300+
The Chiron made history as the first car to cross the 300mph mark. With a speed of 304.7mphit, an 8.0-liter quad-turbo W16 produces 1579 bph. The company added 10 inches to the standard Chiron to achieve this speed. Chiron can go from 0-60mph in 2.3 seconds. It currently costs $4 million.
3. Bugatti Bolide
Bugatti is famous for making some of the fastest cars in the world. So it came as no surprise when the carmaker decided to beat its record after making the Chiron. Bugatti surprised thousands when it created a vehicle that could go 310 mph shortly after it had crossed the 300 mark with Chiron.
Bolide, while smaller than Chiron, is quicker. It uses an 8.0-liter quad turbocharged W16 engine, producing 1364 pound-feet of torque and 1825 horsepower. The vehicle is 39.2 inches above the ground and goes from 0-60mph in 2.17 seconds.
It is a lightweight vehicle with a futuristic design that many consumers would love. But, unfortunately, the car currently goes for $4.7 million.
2. Hennessey Venom F5
Hennessey created this vehicle after the success of its Hennesey Venom GT, which had a speed of 270.4mph. However, the Venom F5 can reach a speed of 311 mph, making it the company’s first vehicle to cross the 300mph mark.
Hennessey isn’t a traditional carmaker. It instead specializes in remodeling existing cars into extraordinary vehicles capable of high speed. The Venom F5 engine produces 1817hp and 1193 lb-ft of torque. It can also form from 0-60mph in less than 2 seconds. The vehicle currently costs $1.6 million. However, it isn’t easy to find, as Hennessey only made 24 of them in 2022.
1. Koenigsegg Jesko Absolut
Although Bugatti has the most spots on the list, the fastest car title goes to Koenigsegg Jesko Absolut. This vehicle is currently the fastest, with a speed of 330 mph. It has a 5.0-liter v8 engine that generates 1600hp and 1106 lb-ft of Torque. The car can go from 0-60mph in 2.65 seconds. It currently costs $3.4 million.
Despite the Jesko Absolut being the fastest car in the market, it might not hold the title for much longer as the Devel Sixteen, currently in production, is rumored to reach 347 mph. However, this is all speculation, and it remains to be seen if the next vehicle could take us closer to the 350 mph mark.
